About This:
Melancholy; a feeling of thoughtful sadness, sober thoughtfulness, a gloomy state of mind. Named after main Character Maarten Corbelijn from Willem van Toorn's novel 'Steam' Corbelijn attempts to capture melancholy in their songs.Corbelijn-songs are sober, as if they float right by. A conscious choice was made for an emptyness in the songs. A lost mellotron, a single cello, a hidden piano as well the never being intruisive but always present soft, gloomy state of melncholy.
Late 2005 Ron Valeri founded Corbelijn. Together with Jean-Marie Tournier and Norbert de Jong he starts writing and recording small acoustic songs. Late 2006 one the demo songs 'Becoming Time' winds up at Frans Hagenaars. Hagenaars proposed recording an album with him at his Sound Enterprise studio. This proposal ultimately resulted in ten recorded Corbelijn-songs. After which Darius van Helfteren mastered the songs. By then it turned 2009.
Once upon, Corbelijn was a small and well hidden secret. Yet now, picked up by Dying Giraffe Recordings, Corbelijn can be found and cherished for those who loves melancholy music from the heart.
