TOPHEAVY – It’s been ten years and counting for the iconic Boston-based rock band. Bands have come and gone from the Boston scene… year after year, TOPHEAVY continues to bang out their infectious brand of rock on stage with the best of them.
Band founder, Chris Wagner has handpicked one of the most enduring line-ups in Boston rock history, comprised of drummer Mike Martino (Swag/Greenhouse Effect) and bassist Corey Buckingham (Pennywheel). 2010 brings in a new year, a new decade and a new look and sound for TOPHEAVY, with the recent addition of Damian David (4”Stud/Whiskey Project), who brings an alt-country swagger to the band’s aptly named “mighty pop” trademark sound.
Recently, TOPHEAVY has been asked to:
• Appear at The International Pop Overthrow Festivals in Boston and Los Angeles
• Take the stage at Fetzer Fest 2010 in Allentown PA
• Perform at The Precinct Haiti Benefit Concert
• Play the 2010 Concert For A Cure Benefit
• Turn the guitar down
• Appear on WinCam TV’s Music Closet
• Move the van before it gets towed
TOPHEAVY's ‘mighty pop’ originally broke into the Boston music scene at the turn of the century. Ten years later, their recipe for success is the same. “Write great songs and then play the sh*t out of them live.” And it still works.
The local buzz and radio airplay surrounding TOPHEAVY's recording catalog has allowed the band to broaden its fan base by performing in some of the best rock venues in MA,NY, RI, PA, CT, ME, NH, VT, DC, CA and Montreal QC.
Topheavy’s debut EP Bitesize and sophomore effort LoveDrunk both recorded and produced by Neighborhoods frontman, David Minehan, and 2009’s One Time, This Time recorded and produced by Chris Rival, received radio airplay throughout North America, Europe, Australia, and South America. The cd’s capture TOPHEAVY's live energy and gritty vocals and were considered some of Boston’s best new releases of the year by the Boston Metronome Magazine. Standout tracks “Bang Camaro”, “Outta My Head”, “Julie Says”, and “Overjoyed” continue to get regular radio play, and coverage in other Boston rock magazines like the Metronome, Northeast Performer, and The Noise, have also helped widen the band’s appeal.
Other TOPHEAVY highlights include the band’s selection (out of over 2,500 contestants) as one of the TOP 50 unsigned bands in the USA, to compete for the Coca-Cola sponsored/American Music Awards "New Music Award." Additionally, four of the songs from the LoveDrunk CD were given honorable mentions in the Billboard Songwriting contest.
As 2010 rolls on, Topheavy continues to push their rock and roll message forward with regular live performances and touring, new songwriting, and plans for an upcoming cd to be released in 2011! And so it continues to be onward and upward for TOPHEAVY… as their bright red arrow logo indicates! |
